Forum de l'AWID : Co-créer nos horizons féministes
En septembre 2016, 1800 féministes et défenseur-e-s des droits des femmes venu-e-s des quatre coins de nos mouvements se réunissaient sur les côtes de Bahia à l’occasion du 13ème Forum international de l’AWID.
Cette section met l’accent sur les victoires, les enseignements et les ressources qui ont couronné nos conversations. Nous vous invitons à l’explorer, la partager et laisser vos impressions.
L’un des principaux éléments à retenir de ce Forum a été la nécessité d’élargir et d’approfondir notre travail de collaboration entre mouvements pour faire face à une montée des fascismes et des fondamentalismes, une exacerbation de la cupidité des entreprises et un changement climatique en progression.
L’AWID a donc travaillé avec plusieurs allié-e-s pour ériger ces semences de résistance :
Les mouvements peuvent aussi bénéficier d’une nouvelle méthodologie pour envisager nos horizons féministes. (à venir bientôt !)
A travers son prochain plan stratégique et le processus de son Forum, l’AWID s’engage à poursuivre et approfondir les rapports, les apprentissages et les processus amorcés lors du Forum 2016, tout en s’inspirant de l’actualité.
Et maintenant ?
Le monde est bien différent de celui qu’il était l’an dernier et il continuera à changer dans les années à venir.
Le prochain Forum de l’AWID se tiendra dans la région Asie-Pacifique (les dates et le lieu exacts seront annoncés en 2018). Nous attendons avec impatience de vous y retrouver !
A propos du Forum de l’AWID
Les Forums de l’AWID ont vu le jour en 1983, à Washington DC. Depuis, ils revêtent de nombreux aspects et incarnent, selon les personnes, tantôt un processus itératif visant à affiner nos analyses, notre vision et nos actions, un évènement clé galvanisant les féminismes des participant-e-s et leurs organisations ou un espace politique offrant refuge et solidarité aux défenseur-se-s des droits humains.
Mena Mangal fue una destacada periodista de televisión, defensora de los derechos de las mujeres y asesora cultural de la Wolesi Jirga, la cámara baja del parlamento nacional de Afganistán.
Durante más de una década, trabajó para Ariana TV, el canal Lamar de lengua Pashto de Tolo TV, y para la emisora privada de televisión nacional afgana Shamshad TV. Como presentadora, Mena se enfocó en los derechos de las mujeres y en los programas de entrevistas culturales.
"La defensora de los derechos de la mujeres Wazhma Frogh dijo que Mangal "tenía una voz fuerte" y se pronunció activamente como defensora de su pueblo".
Fuera de la pantalla, también dirigió páginas populares de redes sociales que defendían los derechos de las niñas y mujeres afganas a la educación y el trabajo. En lo que concierne a su vida privada, Mena escribió extensamente acerca de cómo había sido forzada a contraer un matrimonio arreglado en 2017, y sobre el proceso que tuvo que atravesar para poder obtener finalmente el divorcio.
En un post de Facebook, Mena escribió que estaba recibiendo amenazas de muerte de fuentes desconocidas, pero que aun así continuaría llevando a cabo su trabajo.
El 11 de mayo de 2019, Mena fue atacada por hombres armados desconocidos y asesinada a tiros a plena luz del día en un espacio público del sudeste de Kabul.

AWID began preparing this annual report just as the global pandemic began to unravel how we gather, organize and live our lives. It is impossible to review what we have done without COVID-19 tinting our assessment.
Co-Creating Feminist Realities is no longer just an AWID Forum theme - it is a rallying cry in response to a pandemic that has laid bare the failures of social, political and economic systems.
It is an urgently needed affirmation that there are other, more just ways of organizing our lives. During 2019 hundreds of groups shared their experiences and proposals for feminist realities with us, ranging from radical networks of community support in Latin America facilitating self-managed abortion, to practices of community-centered economies in Indonesia and community-centered food systems in India and the US, to a re-imagination and new practice of harm-free rites of passage in Sierra Leone. These are the experiences that will chart a path forward for a “new normal”.
Yet long histories of oppression and violence can make it difficult to imagine the possible. A key part of our work in 2019 was to spark these explorations through a toolkit AWID launched to support groups interested in unearthing the stories and aspirations that are the building blocks of feminist propositions.
While we focus on our proposals for a different world, we recognize the challenging context around us.
Through the Observatory on the Universality of Rights, Feminists for a Binding Treaty, Count Me In! and other alliances, AWID has continued to push back against unfettered corporate power and fascist and fundamentalist agendas that undermine women’s rights and gender justice. With dim prospects for transformative change through multilateral processes and limited responsiveness from most states, we are redoubling our efforts to ensure that feminist movements, in all their diversity, are resourced in ways that match the critical roles they play - supporting their communities, demanding rights and responding to crises. In 2019 we introduced feminist principles and approaches to ground-breaking funds like the Spotlight Initiative and the Equality Fund, and succeeded in leveraging resources through feminist reality seed grant funding from feminist funders.
As we look ahead, it is clear that the context is calling for a transformation of our organizing strategies:
we are learning to navigate global advocacy confined to online channels,
we grapple with the uncertainty of when and how we can convene in person, and
we use the tools at our disposal to tighten connections across local to global spheres.
AWID is embarking on a new membership model that lowers barriers to access and emphasizes opportunities for engagement and cross-member connection. We will continue to experiment with different online tools and processes for building community. Cross-movement engagement will stay at the center of our work. AWID’s actions in solidarity with oppressed movements and identities, even and especially where these are marginalized in feminist movements, are important to drive change and support broad and inclusive movements for all.
Crisis is not new to feminist and social movements.
We are resilient, we adapt, and we show up for each other. And we have to keep doing better. Thank you to all who are part of the journey with us.

Manal Tamimi is a Palestinian activist and human rights defender. She is a mother of four who holds a master’s degree in international humanitarian law. Due to her activism, she was arrested three times and got wounded more than once, including with live explosive bullets which are banned internationally. Her family is also a target: her children have been arrested and wounded with live ammunition more than once. The last incident was an assassination attempt of her son Muhammad who was shot in the chest, near the heart, a few weeks after his liberation from the occupation prisons where he had spent two years. Her philosophy on life: if I have to pay the price for being a Palestinian and not for a crime I have committed, I refuse to die in silence.

Lina Ben Mhenni était une blogueuse, activiste et chargée de cours de linguistique tunisienne. Elle s’est exprimée haut et fort contre la censure sur Internet, a défendu la liberté d’expression ainsi que les droits des femmes et les droits humains. Lina s’est également battue pour la libération des étudiant·e·s arrêté·e·s sous l’ancien président Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali.

Elle a co-organisé en 2010 une manifestation en réaction à la suppression des médias et la censure sur Internet imposées par le gouvernement. Lina était très connue pour son blog « A Tunisian Girl » et son travail pendant la révolution tunisienne en 2011 était reconnu. Elle s’est servie de son blog pour transmettre des informations sur la révolte, partager des images documentant les manifestations, et a été parmi les rares voix qui s’élevèrent pour dénoncer les assassinats et la répression des manifestant·e·s à Sidi Bouzid. Lina était une des rares blogueuses à utiliser son vrai nom sur Internet, et non un pseudonyme pour protéger son identité.

Lina n’avait que 36 ans lorsqu’elle est décédée, le 27 janvier 2020, de complications d’une maladie auto-immune.

From the rising right in many countries and the flurry of funding cuts hitting hard civil society of the Global Majority, to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, the intensification of violent conflicts in Sudan, and climate crisis in many parts of our planet, we are facing real forces of fascism and a world order of impunity. This makes our opportunities to come together and build solidarity particularly valuable and imperative for our survival as a global feminist community. Of course, in 2024, the 15th AWID International Forum finally happened, and what a powerful space it was.
As we look ahead, we build on the powerful calls to action made by feminists at the AWID Forum; Together we can build a world where justice, liberation and care are not aspirations but realities.
منال التميمي، ناشطة فلسطينية ومدافعة عن حقوق الإنسان. أم لأربعة أطفال كما أنها حائزة على ماجستير في القانون الدولي الإنساني. اعتقلت منال ثلاث مرات على إثر نشاطها السياسي وأصيبت أكثر من مرة بالرصاص الانشطاري الحي المحظور دوليا. عائلتها مستهدفة أيضًا: اعتقل وأصيب أطفالها بالذخيرة الحية أكثر من مرة. وكانت الحادثة الأخيرة محاولة اغتيال نجلها محمد الذي أصيب برصاصة في صدره قرب القلب بعد أسابيع قليلة من تحريره من سجون الاحتلال حيث أمضى عامين. فلسفتها في الحياة: إذا كان عليّ أن أدفع ثمن كوني فلسطينيّة، فأنا أرفض أن أموت في صمت.
Isabel Cabanillas de la Torre was a much loved young feminist artist and activist from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, known for her beautiful and evocative hand-painted clothing with eyes being an emblematic feature in her work. Her murals transformed the run down and vacant buildings in Ciudad Juarez’s downtown, bringing life and political commentary to their walls.
Through her art and political activism Isabel sought to draw attention to thegender based violence pervasive in her hometown. She volunteered with the women’s network Mesa de Mujeres on the Citizen Observatory on Gender to monitor the performance of judges, prosecutors and public defenders on cases of femicides and other gender based violations. She was also a member of Hijas de su Maquilera Madre, a feminist collective whose name makes reference to the daughters of mothers who are maquila workers. Some of these mothers were among the first victims of femicide in the city.
Isabel’s latest project, still in progress, was an art installation to protest a Canadian company that was looking to mine copper in the Samalayuca Desert.
On 18 January, 2020 Isabel was shot while riding her bike back home in Downtown Juárez, in what appeared to be a targeted killing, her body found beside her bike.
Isabel’s murder, sparked a new wave of outrage against femicides in the region, hundreds marched to the US-Mexico border bridge, blocking it for hours and chanting “Ni una mas” (Not one more) as feminist collectives continue to protest the murders of women throughout Mexico. In 2019 alone, 3142 women and girls were killed in Mexico, many of whom were targeted specifically because of their gender.

Isabel est une féministe du Royaume-Uni avec plus d'une décennie d'expérience de réponses féministes aux fascismes, aux fondamentalismes et aux tendances antidroits. À l'AWID, son travail se concentre sur le renforcement des connaissances. Elle a notamment dirigé la production de la série Droits en danger en collaboration avec l'Observatoire sur l'universalité des droits (OUR). Elle est titulaire d’un master en études sur le genre de l’École d’études orientales et africaines (SOAS) et a précédemment travaillé avec Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML). Elle est passionnée par le travail intermouvements, la construction de connaissances centrées sur les mouvements et l’utilisation de l’expression créative pour perturber les systèmes d’oppression. En dehors du travail, Isabel est active dans divers espaces de justice liée au handicap, aux soins collectifs, à l’apprentissage et au plaidoyer.
